More Great Reads

The much anticipated conclusion to the Ellery and Reed series has dropped!!

Thank you to Netgalley, author Joanna Schaffhausen and St. Martins Press for the opportunity to review this book. In the last book in the series, the story comes full circle. This story takes us back to the beginning and we witness Ellery coming to terms with everything that has happened to her. FBI Agent Reed Markham is by her side for it all. As the sole survivor of a well known serial killer Ellery struggles to deliver justice to the victims families while fighting her own demons. Another multifaceted mystery with twists and turns you won’t see coming. Even though it’s part of a series this does well as a stand alone novel. To get the full picture I would recommend reading the series in order. Although I will miss Ellery and Reed this was an extremely satisfying end to the series. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys crime fiction and mysteries. I can’t wait to read what’s next from this author!

These Silent Woods - Kimi Cunningham Grant

“The thing about grace is that you don’t deserve it. You can’t earn it. You can only accept it. Or not.”

In this breathtaking novel, we encounter Cooper, a single father, who lives in a remote cabin deep in the Appalachian mountains with his eight-year-old daughter, Finch. Cooper desperately wants to protect his daughter from his past, but she is asking more questions and wanting more freedom than he is willing to allow. Once a year, his friend Jake brings him supplies, but what if Jake doesn’t show up? When that day comes, are they ready for the events that follow?

The tension is palpable in this story from the very beginning. It is a poignant and haunting story of a man whose love for his daughter knows no bounds. Any parent would empathize with Cooper, and this tale definitely tugs at the heartstrings. It is not a fast-paced thriller but more of a slow intense burn that keeps you glued to the pages. There is a great twist at the end that I really enjoyed, and I also loved the prologue. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys atmospheric thrillers.

Rattlesnake Road-Amanda McKinney

Not my typical book but I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Grey Dalton is the very definition of a hot mess. In an effort to take control of her life she finds herself in a quant cabin, that needs a lot of TLC, in the middle of nowhere. A stark contrast to her jet setting New York City life, but maybe this is the change she needs. Constantly second guessing herself, trying to be better and failing she finds herself in the arms of two different men. At the same time she uncovers a mystery in the small town, the answers to which she already has but just didn’t know it yet.
This book is More romance than mystery, which typically is not what I enjoy. However this story is so well written and the characters are vibrant and rich, I couldn’t help but get sucked into this one. Right from the start, the story pulls you in, it addresses some hard hitting subjects that allow you to ride the rollercoaster of emotions with the main character. The romance is steamy, the descriptions of the beauty in the landscape are striking. This is a definite must read for anyone who loves romance novels!
